Low risk
Peak: Aug–Nov
Most are harmless helpers, but brown recluse and black widow bites need immediate medical attention.

Warning signs
Loose, messy webs in garages and closets for widows; no webs at all for recluses, look for them in stored boxes, shoes, and rarely-moved furniture.
Why it matters
Most Texas spiders are harmless, but black widow venom is neurotoxic and brown recluse bites can cause necrotic wounds. Both need prompt medical attention.
How we treat it
We remove webs and egg sacs, treat entry points and harborage areas, and reduce the insect prey that attracts spiders in the first place, the only lasting fix.
Prevention checklist
Shake out shoes and gloves stored in garages
Keep storage boxes sealed and off the floor
Clear clutter from closets and crawl spaces
Install door sweeps on exterior doors
